Artist-in-Residence at Roedean School
I’m really honoured to have been asked to join Roedean School as their Artist-in-Residence for this Autumn term. Every Monday I get to hang out in the beautiful art department with all the lovely art teachers and students, and soak up all the years of creativity! I’ve been busy gathering resources from each week to work on and digest after these months pass, alongside working with the students through 1-1s, small groups and workshops on aspects of portraiture and life drawing. It’s been an absolute blast, and the girls have been an inspiration – the talent and fearlessness in these artists of the future is incredible. Reminds me to keep being brave!
I’ve been really drawn to looking at groups of students working around the tables together, nodding a reference to the vintage tiles that surround the departments walls! Also spent an afternoon doing 40 brushtroke paintings of willing volunteer models!
It’s been great cracking out the inks as well! This was from a class of blind sculpting – the girls were blindfolded and making sculptures without looking!
I’ve got a couple of weeks left to keep information gathering, and hopefully these resources will feed into a further body of work! Watch this space! x
